Investigations of liquid - gas separations
The filtration of droplets requires the combination of different process steps, such as the impingement on filter fibres, the formation of fluid films by coalescence and the detachment behaviour, which makes the prediction of the separation and pressure drop behaviour difficult. Complex combinations of fibre layers and support grids with different pore widths, fibre structures and wetting behaviour are used, especially for high deposition rates, whose behaviour is also temperature-dependent and influenced by mechanical effects. The project focuses on the numerical investigation of the behaviour of a droplet on a single fibre and analyses detachment and movement processes as a function of the operating parameters and mechanical vibrations using dimensionless parameters.
