Moodle course
The Moodle course for the PO2017 and PO2024 programmes in Thermodynamics is the same.
Bachelor’s degree (MB) under the PO2024
Thermodynamics I
Winter semester: 4 SWS (2 + 2 SWS)
Overview
Students will master the fundamentals of thermodynamics for open and closed systems involving fluid media. In the practical sessions, students will develop the methodological skills required to describe and calculate thermodynamic problems. The learning outcome is a basic understanding of thermodynamic problems and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems or to abstract practical problems into computational methods.
Contents:
- Fundamentals and basic concepts of thermodynamics (systems, thermodynamic state, state variables and changes of state)
- First and second laws of thermodynamics
- Polytropic changes of state
- Thermodynamic multiphase states of pure substances (wet steam)
- Thermal engines (cyclic processes)
Lecturers
- Prof. Uwe Janoske, Dr. Ing. habil.
- Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Burgmann
Examination
- written examination (exam) 90 minutes
- Lecture and tutorial materials will be made available via Moodle. The access code will be provided during the first lecture.
- The exam date will be announced by the Examinations Office.
Notes
- If you have any queries, please contact Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Burgmann.
Thermodynamics II
Summer term: 4 SWS (2 + 2 SWS)
Overview
Students will master the fundamentals of thermodynamics for binary mixtures, combustion processes and heat transfer. The practical sessions will equip students with the methodological skills required to describe and calculate thermodynamic problems. The learning outcome is a basic understanding of thermodynamic problems and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems or to abstract practical problems into computational methods.
Contents of Thermodynamics II:
- Fundamentals of thermal material conversion
- Gas-vapour mixtures (moist air)
- Binary (vapour) mixtures (distillation)
- Fundamentals of chemical transformation
- Mole balance
- Combustion and energy balances
- Fundamentals of heat transfer mechanisms
- Heat transfer by conduction
- Convective heat transfer
- Thermal radiation
