Solid-liquid and liquid-liquid separation in disk stack centrifuges (EnEffTrenn)
The goal of the project EnEffTrenn is to increase the separation efficiency of very small particles--with settling velocities smaller than 1mm/h—in disc stack centrifuges.

The project comprises:
- Identification of flow conditions, particularly regarding hydrodynamic instabilities.
- CFD simulations of volumetrically resolved particles with respect to particle-particle and particle-wall interactions.
- Simulation of liquid-liquid separation.

Many industrial applications gain massive potentials for energy savings using improved disc stack centrifuges. The savings potential is about 25% (substitution of micro filtration processes) and may reach up to 50% (economizing of whole separation stages).
